Mikel Arteta verdict on Villa Park defeat on Saturday 7th December 2025.

Image
Mikel Arteta insisted Premier League leaders Arsenal will recover from the frustration of a dramatic 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa that blew the title race wide open on Saturday. Emiliano Buendia fired Villa's winner with the last kick of a pulsating game, ending the Gunners' 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions in the process. Arsenal's Leandro Trossard had come off the bench to score a second half equaliser after Matty Cash's first half opener at Villa park. They have finished as runners-up for the last three seasons and haven't been crowned champions since 2004. But Arteta remains confident they will handle the mounting pressure. That is the league, you go to Old Trafford, you go to St James' Park, you go to Chelsea, you come here, we have been in a lot of difficult grounds," he said. "The result could have been different, the reality is not. We went 18 games unbeaten and still we are there, close to each other. ...

US coach Pochettino says World Cup group games look like finals.

Image
Mauricio Pochettino feels that the United States will be looking no further than the World Cup group stages after being given a draw that has raised hopes of a deep run in the tournament. US coach Pochettino was in attendance in Washington to see his team land in a Group D which will see them play Paraguay, Australia and an as yet undetermined European qualifier. Pochettino's men will go into the tournament buoyed by the knowledge that they have scored recent wins over two of their first round opponents, beating Paraguay 2-1 last month and Australia by the same score in October. But while US television pundits such as Alexi Lalas talked bullishly of reaching the semi-finals, Pochettino said that there will be no chance of complacency. Instead, he plans to drill his team into thinking that every group game is a World Cup final ahead of their opener with Paraguay in Los Angeles on June 12. "If you are Argentina and you are maybe today the best team and yo...

KENYA’S STUDENT POLITICS: A REQUEST FOR TRANSITION

Image
In Kenya when 2nd semester kicks off especially in public universities, there comes the period of campus elections—a time when students cast their votes to elect their favourite student leader representatives. However, these elections often reflect a manifestation of larger national issues, characterized by electoral disinterest, and, at times, undermining principles of democracy. In my opinion, it is high time we reconstitute the state of campus elections and advocate for a more clear and transparent electoral process. (Photo courtesy of kibabii University) Campus elections should serve as a training ground for future leaders as they familiarise themselves with matters concerning leadership. Many students view the electoral process as a mere formality, driven by allegations of corruption and tribalistic strategies. Vote buying, intimidation, and the manipulation of university regulations are not uncommon, leading to a cycle of treachery nt among the elec...

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua say that his absence from the late Raila Odinga’s State funeral and burial was due to alleged security threats. Gachagua claimed that although he was prepared to attend the national funeral service at the Nyayo National Stadium, he was warned of a plot to harm him. He alleged that certain individuals within the government had previously planned to assassinate him and said earlier threats and attacks against him had not been investigated. The government had sent some hitmen to Limuru to kill me, and until today, they have not been arrested. Ruto himself had sent some hitmen to kill me in PCA Mwiki in April. Also, on my arrival from the USA, I was beaten by hired men and police officers in civilian clothing,” he stated. He said that some police officers advised him not to attend the funeral, warning that an attack on him could be blamed on people from the Nyanza region, which he said could trigger animosity between the Gikuyu and Luo c...
