THE NORTH LONDON DERBY.THE GUNNERS SHOCKS TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR AT THE EMIRATES STADIUM
In a dominant display at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, Arsenal thrashed local rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-1, with new signing Eberechi Eze scoring a sensational hat-trick to send the Gunners six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Arsenal started strongly, with Leandro Trossard opening the scoring in the 36th minute after a precise pass from Mikel Merino. Just five minutes later, Eze announced his arrival on the North London Derby stage, dribbling through the Spurs midfield before firing a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
The second half began with a bang for Arsenal, as Eze scored his second goal just 35 seconds after the restart, capitalising on space on the edge of the box to make it 3-0. Tottenham's only moment of reprieve came from a spectacular, audacious lob from distance by Richarlison, catching Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya off his line.
However, Arsenal quickly restored their three-goal advantage, with Eze completing his historic hat-trick in the 76th minute, coolly finishing from another Trossard assist.
Eberechi Eze, who reportedly turned down a move to Spurs in the summer, became the first Arsenal player to score a hat-trick in a North London Derby since Alan Sunderland in 1978.
Tottenham struggled to contain the Gunners' relentless attack, managing an xG (expected goals) of just 0.07 throughout the entire match, the lowest by any Premier League team this season. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was forced into several saves to keep the scoreline from being even wider.
The result marked a dominant performance from Mikel Arteta's side, while for Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, who apologised to the travelling supporters, it was a painful afternoon that left Spurs languishing in ninth place in the table.
The convincing victory extended Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League standings and reinforced their title aspirations, giving them a significant six-point cushion over second-place Chelsea.
