KENYA SET TO REPLACE "HARAMBEE ONE" THE OFFICIAL PRESIDENTIAL JET AFTER BEING IN SERVICE FOR 30 YEARS.

The current presidential jet, a Fokker 70 that entered service in 1995, is being retired after 30 years. It has undergone its final maintenance in  Netherlands before being retired from service .The jet was bought in the financial year 1995/1996.

The jet has successfully served four Kenyan Heads of State: Daniel Arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, Uhuru Kenyatta, and William Ruto.

Reasons for replacement is that the jet faces high maintenance costs, mechanical issues (such as hydraulic leaks and corrosion), and difficulty in sourcing spare parts because the manufacturer went bankrupt shortly after its production.

Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya has indicated that a replacement aircraft will be procured, a process that could take up to two years depending on budget availability. The Treasury is reportedly setting aside 10 billion shillings for a new jet, potentially a customized Gulfstream G700/G800.

During this period President William Ruto will rely on alternative options for official travels which include:

1.VIP aircraft from the Kenya Air Force.
2.Kenya Airways commercial flights.
3.Chartered private jets.
